Nel holds a Master of Counselling in Counselling Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, is a Registered Psychotherapist and Supervisor through the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She is a compassionate and insightful professional with over 15+ years counselling and psychotherapy experience in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. Nel’s work has been with children, youth, and adults around a variety of mental health as well as work and career-focused issues.

 

Work and life transition has been a central theme to the Nel’s career, having worked in social work, newcomer settlement, trauma - newcomer, military and forensic related - and career counselling sectors. In all of her past and current roles she has both developed and facilitated group programs with topics related to psychotherapy, career transition, and coaching.  An active community member, Nel has sat on two community board of directors holding roles on each executive team. Nel has lived throughout Canada and abroad over her lifetime and travels often; seeing it as important to increasing her understanding of different cultures and unearthing the universal components of attaining overall well being and a strong sense of self.

A highly collaborative and professional therapist, Nel works to foster a sense of self-agency and forward movement in her clients. She approaches her practice as theoretically grounded in Cognitive-Behavioral Theory (CBT), Solution focused theory (SFBT) and is Attachment oriented with a focus on practical application of therapy into life. These theories speak to her understanding of the therapeutic process that is goal focused, participatory, and non-judgmental and where the whole person is appreciated.
