Nel holds a Masters of Counselling (M.C.) in Counselling Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology, and is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), through the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association. A compassionate and insightful professional with over 15+ years counselling and psychotherapy experience in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. Her work has been with children, youth, and adults around a variety of mental health, well-being and career focused issues.

 

Work and life transition has been a central theme to the Nel’s career, having worked in social work, newcomer settlement, trauma, and career counselling sectors. In all of her past and current roles she has both developed and delivered group programs; career counselling, psychotherapy, and coaching.  An active community member, Nel has sat on two community board of directors holding roles on each executive teams. Nel has lived throughout Canada over her lifetime and recently has been actively travelling and living abroad increasing her understanding of different cultures and unearthing the universal components of attaining overall well being and a strong sense of self.

A highly collaborative and professional therapist, Nel works to foster a sense of self agency and forward movement in her clients. She approaches her practice  as theoretically grounded in Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution focused and Attachment oriented with a focus on practical application to the realities of life. These theories speak to her understanding of counselling as a process that is goal focused, participatory, and non-judgmental.
