Occupational Therapist (Psychotherapy)

Keely Bujold, OT Reg. (Ont.)

MY PATH TO BEING A THERAPIST

My path to being a therapist was nonlinear. Originally, I had hoped to be working with and help animals. After being encouraged to work with people by more than one leader I began studying occupational therapy with the hopes of combining both the physical and mental aspects of health into my practice. My early clinical journey began in pediatrics working with children experiencing sensory and learning challenges in school. After three years I found myself drawn to the motor vehicle industry where I was working with clients who had physical injuries, but I found without fail having to infuse knowledge about mental health and emotional well being.

WHAT THERAPY IS TO ME

I believe that to be human is to be present in the body we are given, and the physical and mental components of health cannot be separated. Therapy is a chance to reconnect with ourselves in the truest sense, to discover or rediscover the beautifully unique, altruistic and collaborative qualities that consciously and subconsciously guide our sense of purpose and belonging, so we can show up for ourselves and others in the fullest way possible.

WHO WORKS WITH ME

Since 2022, I work primarily with adults experiencing complex trauma, mostly with public safety personnel (PSP) including military and first responders. My clinical training is heavily rooted strength-based approaches and acceptance compassion therapy (ACT). I have taken compassion and self-compassion training courses as well as continuing education about working with clients who struggle with the inner critic, the treatment of trauma, and healing trauma with compassion-based approaches as part of my clinical development.
